come join me for a winter’s day trip to innsbruck with a mamiya 6 and a roll of cinestill 50D
I have only used Cinestill 50D film once before and that was on 35mm film. I remembered how impressed I was with it, but also felt it was a bit like Ilford’s Pan F50 in that it works exceptionally well when you have a ton of dalylight and for this film, bright colours. I felt the time was right to try it again and have a bit of an upgrade to medium format film. These shots were taken on a cold but very bright winter’s day back in I think January.
Quick car charging stop enroute. I couldn’t resist taking these shots, the morning lighting was fantastic. I do remember it being brutally cold though!
I love this shot, the composition and the lighting and really nice! Well done Cinestill 50D!
This one didn’t come out so well, although from recollection it was on the drive back during sunset. The lighting was not great and neither was my composition.
Innsbruck is a lovely town and an easy 90min-ish drive from Munich. It is right down in a valley and surrounded by mountains, it is very impressive. A shot of some friends visiting from Madrid.
One of the main statues in the city centre. One of the guys was taking shots of the skaters with a Rolleiflex, pretty cool.
Anyone who travels with a photographer is deemed a patient friend to me.
It was a really bright sunny day and loads of people were out on the Aperol Spritz’s!
Enroute back we stopped at the Walchensee area in Bavaria. I have never been a huge fan of sunset photographs, but this lake was very serene. Actually not bad considering it was only ISO 50 film and I was shooting handheld.
I love the tranquility in this shot.
I pulled off the road for this shot as I could see it in the distance. I just love the softness of the light here. That is a stellar lens performance from the Mamiya 6.
A zoomed in cropped shot (post production) to show how sharp this lens is!
overall observations
I had a great time shooting Cinestill 50D film again, even though it is expensive I must have a bit in stock to pull out on those special really bright days. I think it pairs really well with the Mamiya 6 (although doesn’t every film?!) so I am definitely going to look for an excuse to use it again.
I hope you enjoyed this short blog and thanks to David + family for his nice visit to town!
See you next time,
Neil
