Dublin on medium format film

join me for a few days around dublin and surroundings on medium format film and a mamiya 6.

I have a bit of a backlog of posts to get through since the end of 2024. These are taken from a short weekend trip to Dublin back in November 2024. As I was visiting family, I did not have a huge amount of time for a dedicated photo walk, so these are some simple shots taken whilst walking around time and a short visit down to Greystones, Co. Wicklow. All shot on my Mamiya 6 camera and I got through 1 roll of Ilford HP5 and 1 roll of Kodak Gold 200.

As always, all photographs clickable for full screen viewing.

Trinity College Dublin.

Friday night beers - the Guinness really does taste better in Dublin!

A view down busy Grafton street.

Busy flower stand.

Classic Dublin pub view. Also check out how sharp the Mamiya 6 lens is in the next cropped shot of the pub menu sign.

I was trying to get the woman taking a shot of the bird, which I did, but the overall image is a bit busy and lacking character I think.

Walkway along the Liffey. Not the easiest to shoot directly at the sun.

Photobombed by that same bird. View of the Ha’penny bridge in the background

Dublin Power Station (Poolbeg Stacks). A great shot from Sandymount shore. I love the depth in the clouds on this Kodak Gold 200 film.

Shot right out of the hotel, I caught some lovely early morning sunlight.

Railway tracks, Greystones. I used to walk over this bridge all the time in my childhood - happy memories!

The south beach, Greystones, with a view of Bray Head and Dublin in the distance.

The Beach House pub, Greystones. I love the lighting in this shot.

overall observations

I spent a lot of time in my childhood in Dublin and also went to college there so in many ways it is a home away from home. I did not have a great amount of free time to do a proper photo walk around town, so certainly something I would want to go back and do in the near future. It is also hard enough to write about a time from 3+ months ago, hence my lack of inspiration in some of the photo commentary - I will do better next time!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Cheers,

Neil
