Join me for a day trip down to Rosenheim and onto Kufstein in Austria, for a burst of colour, history, and even some black & white shots - this post has it all!
Part of my summer 'Bavaria on 35mm film’, I only got round to this post now, even though the shots were taken in mid August. This trip sees me go down to Rosenheim and then just over the border to Kufstein in Austria. I don’t have a huge amount to say about either place and wanted to just highlight the photographs I took.
About the gear and film
For this day trip I took along my Leica MP + 35mm and 50mm lenses, always a good combination. Film used was expired Kodacolor (similar to my other posts) and 1 roll of Kodak TMax 100, as it was a sunny day in August.
Kufstein
I ran out of things to do (and importantly photograph) in Rosenheim, so I decided to make use of my day train ticket and headed down to Kufstein in Austria, only about 30 mins by train and right over the border. Kufstein is in Tyrol, and is famous for its large medieval fortress, which towers above this small city of 20,000 people. I was only in town for about 90 minutes, but more than enough time to visit the fortress, including taking a very steep funicular train up to the top! The views from the fortress are quite breathtaking, and the whole fortress grounds are really impressive too.
I can’t seem to delete this photo (it is the post front cover), so here it is again: downtown Rosenheim.
Vertical shots of Kufstein, I particularly like the first one!
All shots below are from my one roll of black & white film and include a mix of shots from Rosenheim & Kufstein. There is also a random shot of a lake, which I can’t remember where it was exactly!
Overall observations
It is a really easy daytrip to head down south to Rosenheim and even into Austria if you feel like it. I’ve been quite accustomed (and spoilt) with all the nice medieval German towns in Bavaria, so I was quite used to being “in another German town” in Rosenheim. That being said, I really enjoyed walking around and taking in all the life and colourful scenes.
I have a few more posts left in my ‘Bavaria on 35mm film’ that I want to upload in the coming days, then I will think about some new post ideas!
Thanks for stopping by!
